Eric Scheid Commits to Penn State

Scheid will join the Nittany Lions as a sophomore next year, when Penn State joins the Big Ten

As they build their program to a Division I-caliber, Penn State has been on the lookout for players with any sort of Division I experience, if only to help spread their scholarships around between classes rather than having huge freshman and sophomore classes in their first seasons. Tonight, they picked up a commitment from one of the better available players in that category.

Lincoln Stars forward Eric Scheid will play his college hockey for Penn State next season. Scheid, and alum of Blaine High School in Minnesota, was a freshman at Alaska-Anchorage last season, where he was tied for fourth in team scoring with 6 goals and 9 assists for 15 points. He chose to return to the USHL this year to explore other college options, and so far, has been excellent there, standing at second in team scoring for the 2nd place Lincoln Stars with 14 points in 13 games, and leading the entire USHL in +/- with a +15 rating. Scheid is a small, but gritty forward that should help bring some scoring, toughness, and solid defensive responsibility to the Nittany Lions when they start Big Ten play next season.
