Michael McCarron Commits to Western Michigan

USA NTDP forward Michael McCarron will play his college hockey for the Broncos.

US NTDP U18 forward Michael McCarron announced via his Twitter account that he had committed to play college hockey at Western Michigan, and today, he made it official by signing a letter of intent with the Broncos. McCarron had originally committed to Michigan State two years ago, but re-opened his recruitment earlier this fall. Some expected that he would then join his older brother John at Cornell, but instead, McCarron has opted for Kalamazoo next season.

Of course, in college hockey, signing a National Letter of Intent doesn't mean as much because often, the most serious recruiting of college prospects comes from the CHL, where they choose not to honor those signed commitments.McCarron's OHL rights were traded from Belleville to the London Knights last summer, and many expect the Knights to make a serious push to sign McCarron next summer.

At 6'5" 228 lbs., McCarron is a bull-in-a-china-shop type of player that loves to throw his weight around, and use his size down low to generate offense. NHL Central Scouting had him rated as a 'B' prospect in their preliminary rankings.
