Friday night helped settle quite a bit in terms of the WCHA Playoff Picture. Here’s where we stand now heading into the final day of the regular season.
- Bemidji State 64 points
- Michigan Tech 54 points
- Minnesota State 48 points
Michigan Tech’s win on Friday and Minnesota State’s loss guaranteed second place in the league for Michigan Tech, and guaranteed third for Minnesota State. Minnesota State will host Alaska-Fairbanks in the first round of the playoffs.
4. Bowling Green 41 points
5. Ferris State 41 points
Both teams held serve with regulation wins on Friday night. Bowling Green hods the tiebreaker between these two teams, so Ferris State needs more points than Bowling Green on Saturday night, or the Bulldogs will be on the road in the first round against Bowling Green.
6. Alaska-Fairbanks 37 points
The Nanooks are four points ahead of seventh, and four points behind fifth, so they’re locked into the sixth spot and will travel to Mankato next weekend.
7. Lake Superior State 33 points
8. Northern Michigan 31 points
9. Alabama-Huntsville 30 points
These three teams all lost on Friday, so they’re in the same spot we started the weekend in. I’ll wait on figuring out potential tiebreakers until it becomes an issue, because I suspect it won’t.
10. Alaska-Anchorage 26 points
Alaska-Anchorage was eliminated from playoff contention tonight. The other hockey team in town got eliminated completely this week, so at least I guess it could be worse.
