Alaska-Fairbanks freshman goalie Niko DellaMaggiore has not appeared in a single game for the Nanooks this year, and likely won’t in remaining weeks of their season. But that won’t stop him from appearing on UAF’s statistics page.
After Friday’s game against Lake Superior—a 4-2 Fairbanks win—the two teams got into a skirmish in the post-game handshake line. Once the two teams were broken up and sent to their locker room, 115 penalty minutes were handed out in the skirmish, including a five-minute major and game disqualification for face-masking to DellaMaggiore. That means DellaMaggiore will be unable to play in tonight’s game, though chances were very good he wouldn’t have anyway.
The penalty minutes mean that DellaMaggiore now appears on UAF’s team statistics with an impressive stat line of one game played, zero minutes played, and two penalties for 15 minutes.
