Lake Superior Completes Sweep of Union to Move to 4-0

The Lakers move to a perfect 4-0 on the season with an impressive road sweep over Union.

Not much attention was paid last weekend to Lake Superior's home sweep of Robert Morris. But Lake Superior followed up those two wins with an impressive sweep on the road against #16 Union.

The Lakers got the weekend started with a 6-5 overtime victory on Friday night. The Lakers Stephen Perfetto tallied three assists in regulation, and in overtime, scored the game-winning goal to cap off a four-point evening.

On Saturday night, Kevin Kapalka got his first start of the season after Kevin Murdock played the first three games in goal, and made an impressive 46 saves on 48 shots as the Lakers pulled out a 3-2 victory to complete the sweep.

The Lakers are now a perfect 4-0-0 to start the season. The goal tending for the Lakers was expected to be stellar this year, and has been so far, with both goalies averaging about two goals per game, and have save percentages above .920.

The big surprise has been the offense for the Lakers. There were serious concerns about where the scoring would come from, but so far, the scoring has come from just about everywhere. The Lakers have scored 15 goals on the year, and those 15 goals have come from 13 different goal scorers. If they can continue that type of production throughout the season, the Lakers might one of the toughest teams in the new WCHA.
