St. Lawrence University head coach Greg Carvel has been named an assistant coach for the U.S. team at the 2015 IIHF World Championship next month.
Carvel just finished his fourth and most successful season as head coach at his alma mater. The Saints finished second in the ECAC Hockey regular season before losing in the semifinals of the league's post season tournament.
Carvel, who played college hockey at St. Lawrence from 1989-1993, was an assistant coach for the Ottawa Senators before being hired by St. Lawrence to replace legendary bench boss Joe Marsh. Preceding his time in Ottawa, Carvel was an NHL Scout for the Anaheim Ducks.
Carvel, along with assistant coaches Mike Hurlbut and Jared DeMichiel, have established a nice pipeline of talent coming into Canton and the next few recruiting classes are shaping up nicely. Serving as an assistant at an IIHF event like this will only give further cache to the staff's recruiting efforts.
