U17 Select Squad Rolls in First 5 Nations Game

A big second period helped the Americans to a 5-2 win.

The United States U17 Select Squad, made up of top 1997-born players, won their first game at the 5 Nations tournament in Trnava, Slovakia this afternoon with a 5-2 win over the Czech Republic.

After a scoreless first period, Tom Novak(Minnesota recruit), got the United States on the board when he finished off a 2-on-1 for a goal. The US would score twice before the end of the second period on goals by Austin Alger(Miami recruit) and Zach Osburn(Michigan State recruit), to take a commanding lead after 40 minutes of play.

The two teams each scored twice in the third period, with Will D'Orsi(Yale recruit) and Brock Boeser(Wisconsin recruit) each scoring for the Americans. Kris Oldham got the win in net for the Americans, while Brock Boeser was named the US player of the game.

The Americans will play their second game of the tournament tomorrow morning when they take on Switzerland at 8am EST.
