Ethan Prow Signs with Pittsburgh Penguins

Matt Christians

St. Cloud State senior captain and Hobey Baker finalist Ethan Prow has signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Prow was the top-scoring defenseman in the NCAA this past season with a scoring line of 8-30-38 in 37 games played, joining Michigan's Zach Werenski and Providence's Jake Walman as the only two NCAA defensemen to average a point or better per game. 20 of Prow's points came on the man advantage, as he quarterbacked the top unit on the nation's second-best power play, which converted at a 29.5% rate this season.

He was named the NCHC's Defenseman of the Year, Offensive Defenseman of the Year, and Player of the Year.

Prow plays as an offensive-minded defenseman. He's not a tremendous skater, and rarely poses a threat to attack off the rush. But what makes him so effective is that he is an incredible passer from the blue line. Prow combines a strong stick with good vision and patience to move the puck effectively around the offensive zone.

Prow's contract is a two-year deal that begins next season. He will report to their AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for the rest of the season on an ATO.
