Nebraska Omaha sophomore forward Avery Peterson has left the Mavericks the school announced today.
Peterson, the 2014 recipient of the Minnesota Mr. Hockey Award as the state's top senior high school player, had a stellar freshman season with the Mavericks, posting 11 goals, 10 assists and 21 points in 39 games. But he fell into a tough slump to start this season, going scoreless in Omaha's first 13 games of the season. He was scheduled to be a healthy scratch in Omaha's last game, but a late line-up switch put him into the line-up where he scored his first point of the season.
As a '95 birthdate, Peterson would be eligible to play junior hockey for the rest of the this season, and could potentially transfer to another school for his final year and a half of eligibility. Peterson's NHL rights are held by the Minnesota Wild, who selected him in the 6th round of the 2013 NHL Draft.
