Nebraska-Omaha announced Thursday morning that freshman forward Jake Montgomery has left the team to return to Sioux City of the USHL.
“We certainly wish Jake the best. He is a good student and a good person, but he wasn’t getting the ice time he expected here. He’ll get that opportunity in Sioux City and a chance to continue his hockey career," said Omaha head coach Dean Blais in the school's press release.
Montgomery appeared in six games this season for the Mavericks, with his last being December 30th against Alabama-Huntsville.Montgomery did not register a point in his six games.
Montgomery will return to Sioux City of the USHL. This is his last season of junior eligibility, so he will likely enroll at a new school next year and would likely have to sit out all of next season as a redshirt, before having three years of eligibility remaining at his next school.
