Nebraska-Omaha announced on Friday that they have extended the contract of head coach Dean Blais--originally set to expire after the 2014-2015 season--through the 2017-2018 season.
After being lured to Omaha with a big contract and high hopes of recreating his success at North Dakota, Blais' results have been middling at best with the Mavericks. Blais has a 91-86-18 record with a single NCAA tournament appearance, and zero playoff series wins with the Mavericks.
That said, Blais received a vote of confidence from Nebraska-Omaha athletic director Trev Alberts in a postseason email to fans, calling him "the best coach in college hockey" Blais will now have the opportunity to lead Nebraska-Omaha as they move from the over-sized CenturyLink Center in downtown Omaha to a new on-campus facility next season.
