Jaxon Nelson Signs USHL Tender with Sioux Falls Stampede

Luverne High School(MN) 2000-born forward Jaxon Nelson has signed a USHL tender to skate for the Sioux Falls Stampede next season.

Nelson, who is committed to the University of Minnesota, tore up the relatively weak competition in southwestern Minnesota this past season. He finished his 25 game high school regular season with a state record 70 goals, as well as 43 assists to lead the state in scoring with 113 points.

Nelson is a huge forward for his age, listed at about 6'4". He's a decent skater for his size and has an extremely heavy shot, which makes him a dangerous scoring threat when he gets opportunities.

Signing with the Stampede is an ideal situation for the young forward, with Luverne only about 30 miles from Sioux Falls. The USHL tender means that Nelson will be guaranteed a spot on the Stampede roster next season, and will dress in at least 55% of his team's games. Sioux Falls forfeits their first pick in the upcoming USHL Futures Draft in exchange for signing Nelson early.

Nelson is the third player to sign a USHL tender for next season, joining Matthias Emillio-Pettersen, who signed with Omaha, and Curtis Hall, who signed with Youngstown.
