Freshman goaltender Garrett Metcalf will not return to UMass Lowell for the 2017-18 season, it was confirmed Wednesday.
The Salt Lake City, Utah native was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the sixth round of the 2015 NHL Draft.
Metcalf played in just four games for Norm Bazin’s team in 2016-17, posting a 2.59 goals against average and .913 save percentage.
Prior to arriving in Lowell, Metcalf played two seasons of junior hockey in the USHL with the Madison Capitals and Waterloo Black Hawks.
As a 1996-born prospect, Metcalf is out of junior eligibility so his only options are transferring or turning pro. He asked for and has received his transfer waiver from the UMass Lowell coaching staff.
