Dick Umile has announced the 2017-18 college hockey season will be his last guiding the University of New Hampshire hockey program, according to a press release.
Umile, a 1972 UNH graduate where he starred for the Wildcats, led the program to heights it had never reached before. Under his watch, UNH reached the Frozen Four four times in 18 NCAA Tournament appearances. The Wildcats have won seven Hockey East Regular Season Championships and two Hockey East Tournament Championships.
Associate coach Mike Souza will take over the helm for the 2018-19 season. The Wakefield, Mass. native played at UNH from 1996 to 2000. He just completed his second season as an assistant at his alma mater. After a minor pro career, he worked as an assistant at Brown and UConn.
