CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Good afternoon and welcome inside Conte Forum on the campus of Boston College where on this Saturday night the Eagles entertain Vermont in a deciding third game of the 2016 Hockey East Tournament quarterfinal round. Faceoff is set for 4 p.m.
The Catamounts forced the winner-take-all contest with a 4-2 victory last night. BC junior Austin Cangelosi and sophomore Alex Tuch scored first-period goals, but Packy Munson stood tall in the Vermont net over the final two periods to force the Eagles into a deciding third game with a semifinal berth on the line for the third straight year.
Cangelosi and classmate Adam Gilmour also posted a goal and two assists in Friday's 3-0 BC win, which pushed the Catamounts to the brink of elimination. BC is playing for its 22nd all-time trip to the Hockey East semifinals, but its first since 2013 as it lost deciding third games to Notre Dame two years ago and UVM last year.
Freshman Liam Coughlin led the Catamount offense with three points, including the game-tying goal 10:20 into the second period. Defenseman Rob Hamilton handed out a pair of primary assists, contributing to each of UVM's goals in the second period.
Munson's career-high 43 saves included 18 in last night's opening period. He silenced the potent Eagles offense ― which has posted the best output in Hockey East this season at 3.86 goals per-game ― over the final two periods.
