BOSTON -- Hello and welcome inside historic Matthews Arena on the campus of Northeastern University where the Huskies host Connecticut on this Saturday night, looking for another Hockey East home-and-home series sweep on this Saturday night.
Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on GoNUxstream with Rob Rudnick and Robbie Vrolyk on the call.
UConn freshman Tage Thompson scored the first goal in Friday night's series opener at XL Center, but NU scored four times before the end of the first period en route to a 5-2 win. Senior captain Kevin Roy led the victorious Huskies with a pair of goals, posting his first multi-point game of the season.
NU is unbeaten in 13 of its last 14 games and now sits sixth in the Hockey East standings. It has not lost a conference game since Dec. 6, going 7-0-1 in that stretch.
Freshman Ryan Ruck has posted a 1.56 GAA and .936 save percentage in his last 14 games in the NU goal. Both marks rank in the nation's top ten.
Thompson's goal just 2:56 into the game last night gave UConn a 1-0 lead and was his nation-leading 11th of the season on the power play. Classmate Max Letunov assisted on both UConn goals to set a new program rookie scoring record with 35 points. Letunov has now cracked the scoresheet in 18 of the last 20 games.
