Boston College has one of the best goalies in the nation in junior goalie Thatcher Demko, but backing him up is apparently dangerous work, because the Eagles have had a tough time keeping Demko's back-up healthy this year. Injuries have sidelined back-ups Chris Birdsall and Alex Joyce. That forced the Eagles to bring in Ian Milosz over Christmas from junior hockey to help back-up Demko.
But for tonight's Beanpot semifinal match-up against Harvard, Milosz was unable to dress. That means student manager Chuck Van Kula will get the experience of a lifetime sitting on the bench as the emergency goalie for the Eagles and praying that nothing happens to Demko.
Due to injuries, BC's backup goalie tonight is Chuck Van Kula, a student manager. He did play in high school, though.— Scott McLaughlin (@smclaughlin9) February 1, 2016
Van Kula at least has some hockey experience, playing goalie for a prep school in Philadelphia as a high schooler. It would still probably best for the Eagles if Demko stayed healthy and they didn't have to put in their student manager against the high-powered offense of Jimmy Vesey and Harvard.
