NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. -- Good afternoon and welcome inside J. Thom Lawler Arena on the campus of Merrimack College where the Warriors are set to host Division 1 newcomer Arizona State in the Sun Devils' third game in as many days in Massachusetts. Faceoff is set for 4 p.m. on this Sunday.
Merrimack is playing at home for just the second time in 11 games after taking a 4-0 loss at Boston University the other night. The Warriors are on their longest losing streak in a decade, ten games dating back to a Dec. 20 win over Canisius.
Sophomore Brett Seney had his three-game scoring streak snapped in Friday's game as the Warriors were shut out for the sixth time this season. Seney scored Merrimack's only goal in a 4-1 loss to Northeastern last Saturday. Brian Christie is the Warriors' leading scorer with 18 points, but the senior has been held out of the goal column in 16 consecutive games.
Freshman Anthony Croston scored on the Sun Devils' first shot on goal of the first period last night at UMass Lowell, but ultimately took a 8-1 loss to Kevin Boyle (11 saves) and the eighth-ranked River Hawks. The hosts also won 4-1 on Friday.
ASU was shut out in four consecutive games before scoring first in each game in Lowell, but has now dropped 15 consecutive contests to NCAA foes.
Today is ASU's final game of the season against NCAA competition as it will finish the season against Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Liberty University and the University of Arizona's club programs, and the U.S. National Under-18 Team. When the Sun Devils return home following today's game, they will have traveled a whopping 35,670 miles (equal to 1.43 times the circumference of Earth) this season.
