CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Good evening and welcome inside Conte Forum on the campus of Boston College before the No. 4 Eagles host Connecticut in a Saturday night Hockey East clash. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
BC's Jerry York became the first head coach in NCAA hockey history to win 1,000 career games as the Eagles were 8-0 victors last night at UMass. The Eagles scored five goals on 13 shots in the first period and never looked back as eight different players ultimately scored goals in the contest.
Last night's effort marked the tenth shutout of junior goaltender Thatcher Demko's career and also his 50th win as an Eagle. Junior Austin Cangelosi and freshman Miles Wood each scored shorthanded goals, while defenseman Teddy Doherty chipped in on the power play.
The Huskies dropped a 4-2 decision to Vermont last night in its first home game at XL Center since Dec. 11. Freshman Max Letunov and Tage Thompson scored goals for UConn, upping their team-leading counts to ten apiece. Sophomore Tanner Creel made a career-high 30 saves in goal.
UConn had been 3-0-2 in its last five Hockey East games before last night's loss, while BC jumped into a first-place tie in the conference standings (21 points) after UMass Lowell fell at Providence.
Several Huskies ― including senior starting goaltender Rob Nichols ― will miss tonight's game with injuries:
Injured (and prob out vs BC): Ronan (hand), Drake (hand), Ojantakanen (knee), Kalter (up body), Nichols (ankle). And Will Golonka (left team
