NTDP U17 goalie Adam Scheel announced via Twitter on Wednesday evening that he has verbally committed to play his college hockey at Notre Dame:
I am excited to announce that I will be playing college hockey at the University of Notre Dame #GoIrish
— Adam Scheel (@AdamScheel) September 17, 2015
Scheel is a native of Lakewood, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland and played his youth hockey with the Cleveland Barons AAA organization. He's already listed at 6'2" 183 lbs.
Here was our assessment of Scheel at last spring's Tier I AAA League Playoffs:
Adam Scheel-G-Cleveland U16-I didn't see every goalie in the age group(I missed Pittsburgh goalie Joe Dragonjac, who is supposed to be pretty good), but did a fair number and Scheel had the most upside of the group. A tall and lanky butterfly goalie. Sometimes his footwork gets a little sloppy, but he's very tough to beat when he gets into his butterfly.
Scheel is likely to join the Irish in 2017-2018 after two years with the NTDP. The Irish also have a commitment from Waterloo(USHL) Cale Morris, who is expected to join Notre Dame as a freshman next season.
