Arizona Coyotes prospect and former Boston University commit Maxim Letunov has been cleared to play college hockey this season for the University of Connecticut, according to UConn radio analyst Will Moran.
Letunov, a Moskva, Russa native, ended up with the Huskies after academic issues prevented his matriculation to BU. The former Youngstown Phantom was selected 52nd overall, in the second round of the 2014 NHL Draft by the St. Louis Blues before his rights were traded to the Coyotes.
His clearance to play this season is huge news for Mike Cavanaugh's Huskies, a team in desperate need of scoring punch. Letunov is a skilled play maker who registered 25 goals and 39 assists in 58 regular season games in the USHL this past season.
