The Boston Bruins have signed undrafted sophomore forward Frank Vatrano out of UMass. The redshirt sophomore is a skilled left winger who played for the US National Team Development Program before heading to BC. Eligibility issues forced him to head back to junior hockey before finally enrolling at UMass.
Feature Story: Vatrano Enjoying Success at UMass
It took him a while to shake the rust off, but once he got going, the East Longmeadow, Mass. native had a big impact on the score sheet for John Micheletto's Minutemen. Vatrano was held scoreless in his first five collegiate games, but had 18 goals and 10 assists for 28 points in his last 32 games this season.
Vatrano has quick hands and can get shots off quickly. He's shifty, but he competes really hard. He should be a fan favorite in Providence with his grit and skill. He lacks size, but he plays a bigger game than his body frame would indicate.
