BOSTON -- Good afternoon and welcome inside historic Matthews Arena on the campus of Northeastern University where the Huskies and No. 2/3 Boston College Eagles will conclude their Hockey East home-and-home series with a 4 p.m. faceoff.
The teams skated to an entertaining 3-3 tie last night with the Huskies coming back from 2-0 and 3-2 deficits to salvage their third Hockey East point of the season. BC's first overtime result of the season snapped its 11-game winning streak, which dated back to a 2-1 setback Oct. 11 at RPI.
Northeastern's Nolan Stevens scored last night's equalizing goal with just 2:14 left in regulation. The sophomore leads the Huskies with seven goals after his second consecutive multi-point effort.
NU held a 5-1 shots on goal advantage in the succeeding overtime period, but settled for the tie and its first point on the road at Conte Forum since Feb. 18, 2011.
Junior goaltender Thatcher Demko tied his season high with 33 saves for the Eagles, including 20 combined in the third period and overtime. Rookie Colin White's team-best point streak now stands nine games long after he gave BC a 3-2 lead on a shorthanded goal 11:11 into the third frame.
The Huskies and Eagles also skated to a tie when they last met at Matthews, finishing locked at a 1-1 score on Jan. 9. In that game, current BC junior Adam Gilmour scored with 2:15 left in regulation.
