Notre Dame at Northeastern: Pregame Notes and Line Combinations

Pregame notes and line combinations before Notre Dame's first game at Northeastern's Matthews Arena as a Hockey East member on Friday night at 7 p.m.

BOSTON -- Good Friday evening everyone and welcome inside historic Matthews Arena on the campus of Northeastern University. Tonight, Notre Dame enters for its first contest in the building as a Hockey East member to begin a two-game weekend series.

Both teams finished last weekend with 1-0-1 records in league play as the Irish played a home-and-home series with Connecticut and Northeastern visited Vermont. Notre Dame will be playing its third of four consecutive games against "Huskies" this weekend, a first for the program since opposing Ferris State and Yale's Bulldogs in 2003.

Northeastern holds a 6-3-1 all-time advantage in the series. Tonight's game marks just the third all-time between the sides in Boston and first since Oct. 27, 2001.

Notre Dame senior Robbie Russo is the defending Hockey East Player of the Week after scoring four goals, including a hat trick in Sunday's 6-1 win in Bridgeport, Conn. Russo, who leads all Division 1 defensemen and the Irish with 24 points, is now the first Division 1 blue liner with a three-goal outing this season and the program's first since 1988.

Second to Russo is junior Mario Lucia, whose 15 goals trail only BU's Danny O'Regan in Hockey East. Bryan Rust led last year's Notre Dame attack with just two more tallies.

Tonight's host Huskies are 3-1-3 in January after 4-1 and 2-2 contests at Vermont. Junior Mike McMurtry scored two goals and an assist in the series, while junior Kevin Roy scored in each game and his brother Derick made a combined 53 saves on 56 shots as the backstop.
