Nate Leaman announced the hiring of former St. Lawrence assistant coach Kris Mayotte to the same position at Providence College on Wednesday morning. Originally reported by Mark Divver of the Providence Journal last week, Mayotte and Leaman had a connection from the latter's coaching stint at Union College.

Mayotte, a former collegiate and minor pro goaltender, played for Leaman and the Dutchmen from 2002-2006. A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Mayotte broke into the coaching ranks as a volunteer assistant at Cornell before spending the past two winters on Greg Carvel's staff at St. Lawrence.

Mayotte replaces Ben Barr who left Providence to head to Andy Murray's staff at Western Michigan. He is the second new addition to the staff this summer, joining former Denver University assistant Steve Miller, who was hired in Juneto replace Jamie Russell who left for a position in the ECHL.

The Friars will also presumably hire a new Director of Hockey Operations as Dave Berard left that position to take on the head coaching gig at Holy Cross.

It's been a busy summer for Leaman and the Friars as the hockey program continues its upward climb back to the promise land in Hockey East.
