Providence's Drew Brown Diagnosed with Cancer

Brown is currently receiving chemotherapy to deal with Ewing's sarcoma

Providence College sent out a press release today announcing that junior forward Drew Brown has been diagnosed with Ewing's sarcomaEwing's sarcoma is a rare type of cancer--there are about 200 new cases per year--most commonly found in male teenagers and young adults.

Brown suffered a lower body injury in Providence's semifinal victory at the Hockey East tournament, and while undergoing an MRI for that injury, a tumor was discovered. Brown, a native of Grass Lake, Michigan, is currently receiving chemotherapy treatment at the University of Michigan's University Hospital.

Brown's quote in the Providence press release seems to indicated that the cancer was caught early, which would greatly improve Brown's chances of surviving the disease.
