NCAA Hockey Tournament Score Update: Providence jumps on top of Quinnipiac

BRIDGEPORT, CONN. -- Mark Jankowski's goal 3:37 into the game has given Providence a 1-0 lead over Quinnipiac after one period of play in the NCAA East Regional semifinal at the Webster Bank Arena.

Trevor Mingoia's crashed into the zone, forechecking hard, and gaining possession of the puck. He got the puck to Conor MacPhee who quickly found Mark Jankowski at the doorstep for the easy tip in goal.

Jon Gillies made 13 saves in the period, including many from in close range. The Calgary Flames prospect was bailed out by the post late in the period before Quinnipiac freshman Sam Anas took a penalty to give the Friars a power play to start the second period.

The winner of the second regional semifinal in Bridgeport advances to tomorrow's NCAA East Regional Final at 3 ET on ESPNU.
