BOSTON -- Fresh off a marquee win over then-No. 3 Minnesota on Saturday night, Northeastern closes out a three-game homestand on this Wednesday in the Back Bay as the Huskies welcome No. 16 Providence to Matthews Arena for the first meeting this year between the Hockey East foes.
Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. The game can be streamed live for free on GoNUxstream.com with Rob Rudnick and Ben Weiss on the call.
Junior Kevin Roy lifted NU to a 3-2 win over the Golden Gophers, its third in four games, thanks to a game-winning goal with 2:36 remaining. Roy, the reigning Warrior Hockey East Player of the Week, is in the midst of a three-game point streak with two goals and two assists during that time.
Saturday night's win was the 500th all-time for the Huskies in their venerable home barn and their first over a top-five ranked team since Oct. 13, 2012 when they defeated No. 1 Boston College.
The Friars finished off their third consecutive shutout for the first time in program history, and their fourth in the last five games, with Saturday's 1-0 win over BC at Schneider Arena. Senior Ross Mauermann's goal, his first of the season, early in the third period stood up as the game-winner for Providence.
Junior Jon Gillies, who made 43 saves against the Eagles, and sophomore Nick Ellis have combined for a 221-minute, 24-second shutout streak since conceding a goal with less than two minutes left in the first period of a 2-1 loss to Vermont on Nov. 15.
Tonight marks the first of two meetings this week between the teams as the Huskies head south to the Ocean State on Saturday. Northeastern won last year's season series with the Friars, 1-0-1, including a 3-3 tie at Matthews last Dec. 6.
