PROVIDENCE -- Welcome to (what will be a sold-out) Schneider Arena on the campus of Providence College, where there's a real good one shaping up tonight. The No. 8/9 Friars are playing their home opener this evening and No. 6 Boston University is set to play the opposition for a fourth consecutive season.
BU is a perfect 3-0-0 for the first time in six years after sweeping Michigan State and Michigan in a pair of one-goal games at Agganis Arena last weekend and looks to make it 4-for-4 for the first time in 13 years. In his first action of the season, junior Matt O'Connor stopped 67 of 69 shots he saw against the Big Ten foes to earn Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Terrier freshman center Jack Eichel scored the tying goal in last Saturday's 3-2 win over the Wolverines and now leads the team with a trio of goals and as many assists in three games.
A loss and a tie at North Dakota dropped the Friars to 1-2-1 as they take the ice in the Ocean State for the first time this year. PC trails in the all-time series with BU, 105-53-13, but won the most recent meeting by a 3-1 score in this building on Nov. 2, 2013.
Nick Saracino scored both goals in PC's 2-2 tie last Saturday night in Grand Forks, its third overtime game in the first four, and the junior leads the team with three goals and four points in the early going. He has scored six times and posted eight points in his last eight games dating back to last postseason.
