All three major weekly award winners in Hockey East this week went to players whose teams spent the weekend on the road. Massachusetts sophomore Steven Iacobellis, New Hampshire freshman Andrew Poturalski and Boston College junior Teddy Doherty earned the weekly awards.
Iacobellis was named the Warrior Hockey East Player of the Week following his offensive outburst Saturday night in UMass' game at Michigan State. The Port Coquitlam, British Columbia native had two goals and two assists after being held scoreless in his first two games of the season.
Poturalski didn't receive quite the hype as fellow freshmen Warren Foegele and Shane Eiserman, but he's the only UNH rookie with more than a point through three games. The former Cedar Rapids RoughRider star had a goal and an assist in the Wildcats' 5-1 win at Michigan on Friday night.
Raise your hand if you had Teddy Doherty leading BC in scoring. Didn't think so. The junior from Hopkinton, Mass. was name the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week. Doherty had a goal and two assists in the Eagles' 6-2 win over Rochester Institute of Technology. He had an assist in the season opening loss against UMass Lowell.
