BOSTON -- Thanks to an 11-2 shots advantage in the first period, the No. 19 Boston University Terriers jumped ahead of their rival Northeastern Huskies, 1-0, after 20 minutes at Agganis Arena in a key Hockey East match-up to decide playoff standing for the home team.
Overall, BU out-attempted the visitors by a massive 25-8 margin, while hitting the post less than two minutes into the proceedings on a shot from outside the right circle by sophomore Evan Rodrigues.
The Huskies were plagued by penalties in the early stages of the contest as freshman Dustin Darou was called for a major board just 3:35 into the proceedings. Just over a minute later, BU freshman Matt Grzelcyk made a shifty move around the defense and was taken down by Husky senior Robbie Vrolyk for a 5-on-3.
Just as the penalty was set to expire, BU jumped ahead first as Rodrigues sliced a puck through the neutral zone for freshman Danny O'Regan, who laced a slap shot past NU senior Chris Rawlings at the 7:01 mark.
