Umass-Lowell vs. Merrimack Preview: Carr to Start Tonight for UML

Junior Doug Carr will get the call in net for UMass-Lowell tonight against Merrimack.

UMass-Lowell will start junior Doug Carr in net tonight when the River Hawks travel to Merrimack. The two Merrimack Valley rivals enter tonight's game on NESN tied for 5th in the conference, just one point back of Providence for fourth place and the final home ice spot.

This will be the fourth start in a row for Carr who was one of the keys to last year's turnaround. The Hanover, MA native has struggled throughout much of this year. He gave up seven goals last weekend as UML's offense came through to pick up a tie and win.

Freshman Connor Hellebuyck had stepped in and played well the past two months, but has now missed the last four games due to an unspecified injury. It is unclear if the Winnipeg draft pick is still injured or if second year coach Norm Bazin is just electing to start Carr.

It is not yet known who will start in net for Merrimack. Junior Sam Marotta has started five games in a row after he and sophomore Rasmus Tirronen rotated through the first three months of the season. Marotta had played well enough to continue getting the nod between the pipes, but gave up six goals last Saturday in a 6-2 loss to UNH.

Game time is set for 7:00.
