Maine Dominates Boston University in Battle of First Year Head Coaches

Maine improved to 2-2-1 in Hockey East with Friday's 7-0 win over Boston University.

Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine scored twice in the first, three times in the second and two more in the final period as the Black Bears dominated Boston University, 7-0 on Friday night at Alfond Arena.

Devin Shore and Connor Leen each tallied a goal and added an assist in the first period as the Black Bears built a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Defenseman Ben Hutton would add a shorthanded goal midway through the second period, and then Red Gendron's freshmen line took over.

Freshmen Blaine Byron, Cam Brown and Brian Morgan were on the ice for three of the next four goals. Morgan potted two goals and added an assist, Byron had a goal and an assist and Brown had two assists. Bill Norman also added a third period score.

Martin Ouellette made 34 saves for his second consecutive Friday night shutout. BU starter Sean Maguire was pulled after allowing the third goal. Matt O'Connor came on in relief and let in four goals on 14 shots.

The Black Bears are off the rest of the weekend while Boston University returns home for a nonconference game with future Hockey East member Connecticut on Sunday.
