Pahl faces a breakaway at the 2017 Minnesota High Performance Camp

Last Thursday, Rochester(MN) ‘01 goalie Makayla Pahl announced via Twitter that she will be playing for the Rochester Mayo HS boy’s hockey team this coming winter.

Pahl, a high school junior who is committed to play college hockey at the University of Minnesota, is considered one of the top female goalies in her age group. She was one of six goalies invited to the USA Hockey Select 66 Camp for the top U18 players in the country, and the only one of that group of six not in the 2000 birth year.

She is no stranger to playing on boys’ teams. Pahl was the goalie last year for the Rochester Boys Bantam AA team. By playing boys’ high school hockey, Pahl will be following in the footsteps of, among other, Maddie Rooney, who played for the Andover boys high school team as a senior in 2014-2015. Rooney is now the starting goalie at Minnesota Duluth, though is taking the year off to be part of the US women’s Olympic team.
