2015 Minnesota Boy's High School Hockey Tournament breaks attendance record

All except one session at Xcel Energy Center set a record.

The 2015 Minnesota boy's state high school hockey tournament set a few attendance records.

The tournament, a cultural touchstone in a state rabid for hockey of all levels had a total attendance of 135,618. That breaks the previous total of 129,643 in 2008.

According to official announced attendance, 110,779 fans attended the 8 sessions for Class A and Class AA schools. All except one was a record. Four were sellouts at Xcel Energy Center, the home of the NHL Minnesota Wild which officially seats 18,064

The total also includes a Minnesota indoor hockey record 21,609 for the Friday evening session.

Over 25,000 people went to Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis for the consolation rounds.

In the 2015 tournament East Grand Forks defended its Class A title with a 5-4 overtime win over Hermantown 5-4 in overtime and Lakeville North completed an undefeated season in Class AA with a 4-1 win over Cinderella team Duluth East.
