Lowell, Mass. -- Austin Prep got off to a quick start and never looked back en route to a 3-0 shutout victory over Central Catholic in the first game of a quarterfinal series in the MIAA Super 8 Sunday at Tsongas Center.
The favored Cougars didn't waste much time before gaining an early advantage. With the top line cycling the puck down low Eric MacAdams got the puck up to defenseman Dan O'Toole. The senior's shot was tipped by Mike Egan and squeezed in just under the bar.
MacAdams' goal with 5.9 seconds left in the second period was a heartbreaker for Central Catholic. The Austin Prep junior blew through the Raider defense and made a strong move on net. He backhanded it past Schena as he flew by the net.
The score made it 2-0 Austin Prep, but the timing of the goal couldn't have been worse for the Raiders. Central had been picking up some momentum with a few solid shifts from Jake Wise's line. He had a few near misses and his linemate Eric Robbins had whistled one just wide. Just over a minute earlier Schena had made a nice save on a Dan Egan breakaway bid as well.
Freshman Dylan Regan posted a shutout in his first ever Super 8 game. He made several key saves in the second period when Central Catholic started to gain some momentum.
