Sectional playoffs are underway in Minnesota high school hockey and last night, a sectional game between Bloomington Jefferson and Academy of Holy Angels ended with punches being thrown in a bench-clearing brawl.
Bloomington Jefferson, the fourth seed in Section 2AA defeated Holy Angels, fifth seed, by a score of 3-2 thanks to a last-minute goal by Jefferson's Bob Lescarbeau.
The real fireworks happened on the final faceoff in the closing second of the game. Holy Angels had a face-off in the Jefferson zone with roughly a second remaining. The players jostled with the puck not getting close to the net. As Jefferson's team came off the bench to celebrate the win, it appears a Holy Angels player tackles a Jefferson player and all hell breaks lose.
Video of the incident is questionable at best, but you can pick up the gist:

No penalties appear from the incident on the game sheet, though there will likely be some supplemental punishment handed out after review. Bloomington Jefferson is schedule to take on top-seed Edina tomorrow afternoon.
