The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) announced Wednesday that it would extend the cutoff of the regular season until 3 p.m. on Feb. 22. That will certainly help some teams that are being forced to play a lot of games in very few days due to all the snow cancellations.
Wednesday's marquee game between Malden Catholic and BC High turned into somewhat of a dud as the Lancers continued to prove they are a class above the rest of the field in Eastern Mass. Matt Filipe scored the game-winner and Tom Sullivan added a goal as John McLean's team shut out BC High, 2-0, for the second time this season.
Wednesday's MC-BC High tilt wasn't the only game pitting two teams on the Massachusetts State Hockey Coaches Association Super 8 Watch List. Senior Kyle Flaherty scored twice, Justin Alves and Tim Concannon added a goal apiece and Sam Best stopped a penalty shot to preserve a 4-2 win over Arlington for Woburn.
Barnstable and Xaverian skated to a 3-3 tie and Wellesley and Milton battled to a 2-2 draw in other battles of teams inside the watch list.
No team inside the watch list lost with the exception of BC High and Arlington, both of whom played other teams in the watch list.
