In the summer of 2014, Cole Borchardt had just finished a strong senior season at Burnsville High School and was looking to continue his hockey career with the USHL's Chicago Steel in hopes of some day playing Division I college hockey. Those plans changed drastically in August of that year when Borchardt was involved in a car accident that killed his best friend and left him with life-threatening injuries.
Among the injuries suffered by Borchardt in the crash was a traumatic brain injury which doctors feared might keep him from walking or talking again. But Borchardt's intense rehab has been nothing short of miraculous. Last February, he began to regain some speech and was able to walk with assistance.
On Wednesday night, his younger brother Cade posted a video another incredible milestone in his recovery: walking without any assistance:
One of the best moments of my life seeing Cole take some steps on his own. Thought I should share with everyone❤️ pic.twitter.com/i4J8myyOER— Cade Borchardt (@C_Borch22) October 15, 2015
