After one last wild night at Warner Coliseum(more on that on Monday), the field is officially set for the 2014 Minnesota boy's high school hockey tournament. Seeds and match-ups were announced on Saturday, and here's what the brackets look like. The winners of the first two games in each class meet in the semifinals.
Class A(starting on Wednesday)
11am- #2 Hermantown(7A) vs. Luverne(3A)
1pm- #3 New Prague(1) vs. Chisago Lakes(5A)
6pm- #1 East Grand Forks(8A) vs. Orono(2A)
8pm- #4 St. Cloud Cathedral(6A) vs. #5 Totino-Grace(4A)
East Grand Forks and Hermantown come in as the heavy favorites after Breck was upset by Orono, and are likely interchangeable as 1/2. Luverne gets a tough first round match-up despite coming into the game undefeated. New Prague vs. Chisago Lakes looks like a fun game that really exemplifies what the Class A tourney should be.
Class AA(starting on Thursday)
11am- #2 Lakeville North vs. Roseau
1pm- #3 Eden Prairie vs. Centennial
6pm- #1 Edina vs. Stillwater
8pm- #4 Duluth East vs. #5 Eagan
All those upsets in the section tournament were thrilling, to say the least, but the downside is that it leaves the state tournament a little wanting in big names. Edina is the heavy, heavy favorite to win their second straight title, but as we saw in the section tournament, anything can happen.
