Legendary broadcaster Gary Thorne will call this year's Minnesota State High School Hockey Class AA tournament on television, according to this tweet from MSHSL media specialist John Millea:
Yes, the rumors are true. Gary Thorne will do TV play-by-play for the #mshsl Class 2A boys state hockey tournament. http://t.co/MqQ9iRBU5l

Thorne was a former play-by-play commentator for the University of Maine in the early '90s, but is best known for his long stint as the voice of the NHL on ESPN and ABC, and as the play-by-play voice on EA Sports NHL video game series.
When ESPN chose not to renew their contract to broadcast NHL games, Thorne moved to broadcasting baseball and football, taking on a gig as play-by-play voice for the Baltimore Orioles on Mid-Atlantic Sports Network and calling other baseball and football games nationally.
The Class AA state tournament, which routinely sells out the 18,000 seat XCel Energy Center, will take place March 6th-8th, and the games will be televised on KSTC TV in Minnesota.
