Just days after playing outdoors with Elk River High School as part of the festivities of Hockey Day Minnesota, senior forward Andrew Zerban has left the team to finish out his season with the Fargo Force of the USHL.
Zerban's USHL rights had recently been traded from a pretty strong Waterloo team to the struggling Force, which opened up the opportunity for Zerban to play more. Zerban will certainly have a chance to play more games in the USHL--the Force have an entire high school season's worth of games remaining on their schedule--but the timing of his departure, leaving his teammates in the middle of the season, certainly raises some eyebrows.
Zerban had been centering the Elks' second line, and his loss will likely be felt deeply.Elk River has been ranked in the top ten all season, with their only three losses coming during the Edina Holiday tournament. The Elks are currently in the hunt for a Northwest Suburban Conference title, and are among the favorites in Section 7AA for a trip to the state tournament.
