Quinnipiac University announced it has extended the contract of the head coach Rand Pecknold through the 2020-21 season. The announcement comes following a terrific season for the Bobcats in which the team won 32 games and advanced to the national championship game for a second time in four seasons.

Pecknold won the Spencer Penrose Award as college hockey's top coach and the ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year last season. The Connecticut College alum is entering his 23rd season behind the Bobcats' bench in 2016-17.

"Rand has done a remarkable job in developing Quinnipiac's men's ice hockey program over the last 22 years and we look forward to many more" athletic director Greg Amodio said in a statement released by the school.
