Cornell hockey hires Flanagan as assistant coach

Matt Dewkett

Cornell coach Mike Schafer has hired St. Lawrence alum and UMass Lowell Director of Hockey Operations Sean Flanagan as the hockey team's new assistant coach.

Flanagan played at St. Lawrence from 2006 through 2011, compiling 12 goals and 40 assists in 121 games. The Canton, NY native played one season of minor pro hockey before turning to coaching. He was the assistant coach for Division III Hobart College from 2012-2015. He spent the past season on Norm Bazin's staff at UMass Lowell as the Director of Hockey Operations.

Flanagan replaces Topher Scott, who left the program to pursue a career outside of hockey earlier this offseason.
