The Philadelphia Flyers announced on Monday that they have signed 2012 NHL Draft fifth round pick and outgoing Cornell senior Reece Willcox to a two year entry level contract with the club.
The scouting report on Willcox is almost the embodiment of Cornell hockey's ethos: Big(6'4" 208 lbs.), not exciting or flashy, but a solid defensive-minded stay-at-home defenseman that wins a lot of tough puck battles. Willcox had a 2-11-13 scoring line in 33 games this season, nearly matching his scoring total of 16 points in his previous three seasons combined. Willcox also served as Cornell's captain this past season.
Willcox will report immediately to the Flyers AHL affiliate in Lehigh Valley to finish out the season on an amateur tryout offer before his contract begins next season. As an outgoing senior, Willcox would have become a free agent had he not signed with the Flyers prior to August 15th of this year.
