Yale adds BCHL assistant Donald to staff

Matt Dewkett

Yale University head coach Keith Allain will hire Ryan Donald to take the place of Jason Guerriero on the staff as an assistant coach.

Donald, a 2010 Yale alum, was in his first year as an assistant coach with the Trail Smoke Eaters in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). The St. Albert, Alberta native had been playing minor league hockey in the AHL and ECHL since he concluded his Bulldog playing career in 2010.

Donald, who served as captain of the 2009-10 Yale team, scored five goals and added 19 assists as a defenseman over 123 collegiate games.

Donald joins Josh Siembida as full-time assistants on Allain's staff. Siembida had been promoted from volunteer assistant earlier in the offseason after the departure of Dan Muse to the USHL's Chicago Steel.

Update: The Trail Smoke Eaters posted a press release on the organization's website confirming the departure of their assistant coach.
