Colgate University hockey coach Don Vaughan won his 350th game behind the bench of the Raiders on Friday night. Vaughan's team shut out Northeastern, 3-0, in front of 1,551 at Starr Rink.
Colgate's stellar defense limited the Huskies to just 24 shots on goal, many of them from the perimeter, allowing sophomore goaltender Charlie Finn to see the puck well. It was the second career shutout for the North Vancouver, British Columbia native.
Freshman Matt Panowyk's first collegiate goal 9:44 into the second period stood up as the game winning goal. Juniors Darcy Murphy and Kyle Baun added insurance tallies in the third period.
The two teams will meet again Saturday night in the series finale.
