Hamden, Conn -- Freshman forward Peter Quenneville is leaving the Quinnipiac University hockey program to sign with the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Western Hockey League (WHL) according to a source. The Edmonton, Alberta native was selected in the seventh round of the 2013 NHL Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Quenneville had four assists in five games so far this season for the Bobcats. He spent last season playing for the USHL Clark Cup Champions, the Dubuque Fighting Saints, where he tallied 33 goals and 37 assists in 63 games played. Quenneville was expected to be one of the top freshmen for Rand Pecknold's Bobcats.
Quinnipiac is 8-1-0 on the season, but has an eight game winning streak after losing the opening game to Alaska-Anchorage. The Bobcats made the 2013 NCAA Frozen Four after being ranked number one for most of the season. Quinnipiac will meet Yale in a rematch of the 2013 NCAA Championship game at 7 p.m. on Saturday at High Point Solutions Arena.
