Providence College received a verbal commitment from Austin Bruins goaltender Kris Carlson last week. The addition was to help offset the loss of Nick Ellis who left school a year early to sign a pro contract with the Edmonton Oilers.
Carlson, a '97 from Centerville, Va., just finished his first season in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) with the Bruins. He went 22-18-4 with a 2.54 goals against average and .916 save percentage in the regular season.
He played sporadically for the Waterloo Black Hawks during the 2014-15 season and was invited to USA Hockey's Select 17 Player Development Camp last summer.
Several ECAC Hockey schools were among other programs reportedly interested in the services of Carlson.
