Matt Demelis, one of the better '99 forwards in New England, has committed to Northeastern University. The Hingham, Mass. native will be playing for the Boston Advantage program this upcoming season.
A left-shot forward, Demelis starred as a sophomore at Division 1 State Champion Hingham High School. He was selected in the seventh round of the 2015 USHL Futures Draft by the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
Demelis was watched by the Northeastern staff from as far back as the beginning of the high school season. He's not the kind of player who will blow observers away with his speed, but he's a possession type forward. He has good puck skills and sees the ice well. He can create time and space because of his lateral mobility and stickhandling ability. He skates a little hunched over, but he has a long, smooth stride.
